Officials of the Cross State chapter of the Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC, almost grounded activities at the new secretariat complex in Calabar as they were on ground to turn workers back home, following its strike directive.
The officials led by the vice Chairman of the Union, Comrade Lawrence Achuta, said the enforcement of the strike will total from Tuesday, until about 2,000 workers allegedly removed from the payroll of the state Government are returned by the authority among other demands.
The Union said all effort to make the Government pay gratuities in the last six years have yielded no results as some of the beneficiaries have died due to their inability to buy their ailment drugs.

Others affiliate Unions who commended the NLC for its stands, say they are ready to sit at home from Tuesday until further directives are given.
Trade Union Congress, TUC, Nigeria Union of Teachers, NUT and National Union of Local Government Employees, NULGE, pulled out of the strike action by last Friday, what they described as insensitivity of the NLC at this period of Covid-19 pandemic.
