The governorship candidate of the Labour Party in Lagos, Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour has rejected the judgement delivered by the three-man tribunal led by Justice Arum Ashom in the governorship election petition which upheld the election of Babajide Sanwoolu, disclosing that he would appeal the judgement.
Rhodes-Vivour said the judgment of the tribunal suggests erroneously that a clear constitutional provision in the electoral process has no meaning.
The LP candidate added that the outcome at the tribunal will not in any way diminish the faith and confidence he has in the Nigerian judiciary, urging all supporters to remain calm and peaceful.
The petition which centred on three issues according to the tribunal, alleged that Sanwoolu was not qualified to contest as at the time of the election, the election of the governor was invalid following corrupt practices and non-compliance to the electoral act 2022 and that Sanwoolu was not duly elected by majority of votes cast which were all dismissed by the tribunal for being devoid of merit.

The petitioner also sought to challenge the eligibility of the deputy governor, Obafemi Hamzat to contest the elections on the grounds that he swore an oath of allegiance to the USA.
The tribunal equally struck out this petition and discountenanced the evidence by the subpoenaed witness, an immigration lawyer, on the grounds that denouncing citizenship does not apply to a citizen by birth affirming the eligibility of the deputy governor to contest the elections.
