The visit to Public Health Institutions on the first day of the new year to welcome new Born Babies has long become a tradition that blends celebration with public health advocacy across Nigeria Hospitals.
In Lagos State,three babies were received for the 2026 edition with a commitment by Governor Sanwo- Olu to improve on maternal and newborn health care.
During the advocacy visit on Thursday January 1 2026 in company of Dr ibijoke Sanwo- Olu, the special adviser to governor Sanwo-Olu on Health Doctor kemi Ogunyemi and other health experts, three babies were received at Ibeju lekki general hospital, Imota general hospital and Gbagada general hospital.
Baby Oludara a male child weighing 2.9 kg was birthed at exactly 12 midnight at Ibeju lekki general hospital becoming the state ‘s symbolic Baby of the year 2026.

He was followed by Baby Daramola a female at Gbagada general hospital weighing 3.45kg and Baby Adegeye Abiodun a male at Imota general hospital who arrived at 2.45 am
The Lagos State Government used the occasion to highlight it ‘s sustained health care interventions including the establishment of Lagos State University of Medicine and health science, intensified TB advocacy, among others
