The Lagos State Government says it is committed to building a Resilient and Sustainable City that is free of pollution, engenders economic growth of citizens and ensures safety at workplace.
Special Adviser to the Lagos State Governor on Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), Oreoluwa Finnih who made this known while addressing Journalists in Lagos said the government has put together a summit where decisive actions will be taken towards realising these goals.
“The Summit embodies our collective commitment to building a Resilient and Sustainable Lagos, a beacon for Sustainable Development of our Nation and the World. It is a transformative journey towards a sustainable Lagos, a call to action, and a roadmap guiding our effort to forge a city that is prosperous”
The Lagos State Safety Commission, and the State’s Environmental Protection Agency are key agencies collaborating with the SDG office in the transformative journey towards a sustainable Lagos.
For the Director General of the Lagos State Safety Commission Lanre Omojola, the gathering will also emphasise the role of Occupational Safety and Health in realising the Sustainable Development Goals: ” When we think about sustainability, we should also think about creating a safe and healthy workplace where workers can perform their duties without fear of injuries, illnesses or death”.
The Director General of the Lagos State Environmental Protection Agency LASEPA, Babatunde Ajayi is concerned about documentation of the progress made by the State in Emission Control to get the state ready for carbon trading.
“We have developed a Carbon Registry Portal, an online measurement, Reporting and Verification Platform to help us document this progress and then get us set for trading of carbon.
It is a landmark that will get us a lot of global traction and set the pace for other states in Nigeria to follow”.
Themed Building a Resilient and Sustainable Lagos, the Inaugural
Summit which aims at promoting Sustainable Development, Environmental Protection, and Social Responsibility in Lagos State is expected to attract leaders from government, businesses, civil society, and the academia.
It is slated for September 12, 2024, in Lagos.
