Lagos State expects second wave of Covid-19 infections

Lagos State Commissioner for Health, Professor Akin Abayomi says more cases of coronavirus will be recorded in the state in the next few weeks due to wrap up testing and the diversification of sample collection centers.

Professor Abayomi who made this known at a news briefing on Thursday said a second wave of infection is likely to occur like it is happening in china presently.

He however noted that the second wave is not always as serious as the first outbreak.

Abayomi also disclosed plans to validate rapid testing to increase case detection.

He gave a message of hope that about 75 -80% of people who contract the virus will recover from it, adding that there was an ongoing research to find out why the disease was not as serious in Lagos state as it is in other countries of the world.

On treatment, Professor Abayomi said they were about to roll out the Chloroquine Clinical trial the traditional medicine board is also said to be working on home remedies especially in the aspect of food supplements.

He urged people to present themselves early to the treatment centre to reduce fatality rate that has increased to 42 in the state.

Lagos state has remained the epicenter of the disease with 2,970 confirmed cases and 2,261 active cases following 649 discharged patients.
