The newly signed Lagos State Electricity law has been described as an important document required to drive investment growth, sustainable and affordable power to residents in the state.

The state Commissioner for Energy and Mineral Resources Biodun Ogunleye disclosed this at a Stakeholders Dialogue organised by the Lagos Chamber of Commerce and Industries where he noted that the state government is already taking advantage of the new electricity act signed by President Bola Tinubu which empowers sub national governments to venture into the business of generation and distribution of electricity at the sub national levels.

Ogunleye noted that with the creation of the State Electricity Regulatory Commission including other relevant bodies in compliance with the new law goes to show the readiness of the government to end electricity challenges in the state.

In his remarks at the dialogue under the theme, “Lagos state electricity law roundatable”, President of the Lagos State Chamber of Commerce and Industries, Gabriel Idahosa said the round-table aims to interrogate the content of the new legislation and how businesses can tap into the opportunities to ensure stability of electricity supply in lagos state.

Experts who touched on various aspects of the new lagos electricity law during a panel session submit that if the new electricity act is adequately implemented by state governments, the days of incessant black outs in the nation’s power sector may just be over.
