The House of Representatives has called on the executive to urgently deploy adequate military and paramilitary personnel to communities across Askira Uba-Hawul Federal Constituency of Borno State, North-East Nigeria to ensure safe rescue of several persons abducted by terrorists and reunite them with their families
This follows a motion of urgent public importance by Midala Balami, who represents the constituency. He decried the persistent and escalating security situation across the federal constituency resulting in the tragic loss of lives, displacement of families, and destruction of homes, farmlands, and livelihoods
Balami told his colleagues that the continuous violence has created fear, disrupted socio-economic activities, and undermined peace and stability in the constituency, expressing worry that despite their efforts, security agencies have not been able to prevent recurrence.
The House therefore:
● called on the Chief of Defence Staff and other security agencies to intensify surveillance and establish permanent security outposts in the affected areas
● mandated the National Emergency Management Agency, NEMA and relevant bodies to provide immediate relief and humanitarian assistance to victims
● observed a minute of silence in honour of those who lost their lives in the affected communities*
Meanwhile, the House has also asked the executive and all security agencies to immediately deploy additional security personnel and resources to Kachia-Kagarko Federal Constituency of Kaduna State, North-West Nigeria where killings and mass abduction of persons have been on the rise.
The resolution followed a motion of urgent public importance by member representing the federal constituency, Gabriel Saleh Zock.
The lawmaker in his motion noted that between January to April communities across the constituency have witnessed the killing of over 30 persons in coordinated attacks with mass abduction of over 350 persons between October 2025 and April 2026.
The lawmaker lamented the poor response time by security agencies that allow bandits to operate for hours without immediate security response, blaming the situation for the high casualty figures and successful mass abductions.
According to him, communities are being displaced, with some villages nearly deserted due to fear of repeated attacks; a development he says has crippled economic activities, worsened food insecurity and poverty in the constituency.
Zock insists that the frequency, scale and coordination of the attacks indicate that current measures remain insufficient to address the crisis despite efforts by security agencies, warning that if urgent and decisive intervention is not undertaken, the situation may further escalate into a full scale humanitarian and security disaster in the constituency
The House in other resolutions:
● mandated its Committees on National Security and Intelligence, Defence, Police Affairs, and Army to conduct assessment of the security situation in the constituency and report back within two weeks.
● called on the Kaduna State government to strengthen collaboration with local vigilante groups, traditional rulers, and community leaders for intelligence gathering and early warning systems.
● called for the establishment of More Forward Operating Bases, FOBs and rapid response units in strategic locations within the constituency to deter and respond swiftly to security threats.
● urged the National Emergency Management Agency, NEMA to provide relief and rehabilitation support to affected communities.
