ASUU Strike
Academic Staff Union of the University, ASUU

The academic staff Union of Universities, ASUU has issued another 14-day strike notice to the Federal government in addition to the 21 day ultimatum.

A statement signed by ASUU President Emmanuel Osodeke says the additional 14 days which starts from Monday September 23, was part of the National Executive Council meeting resolution that held between August 17 and 20 at the university of Ibadan.

The University lecturers had on August 22 issued a 3-week ultimatum to the federal government

ASUU said the fresh notice has become necessary as government continues to renege on agreements reached to address their plight.

ASUU said its leadership met to review government’s response on Thursday,
September 19, 2024. and noted, with regret government’s failure to fully keep to agreements.

The issues in contention include; conclusion of the renegotiation of the 2009 FG/ASUU Agreement, based on the Nimi Briggs Committee’s Draft
Agreement of 2021; the release of withheld three-and-a-half months’ salaries due
to the 2022 strike action; the release of unpaid salaries for staff on sabbatical, part-time, and adjunct appointments affected by the Integrated Payroll and Personnel
Information System (IPPIS); and the release of outstanding third-party deductions
such as check-off dues and cooperative contributions.

Others are funding for the revitalization of public universities, partly captured in the 2023 Federal
Government Budget, payment of Earned Academic Allowances (EAA), partly captured in the 2023 Federal Government Budget, proliferation of universities
by Federal and State Governments and implementation of the reports of visitation
panels to universities as well as illegal dissolution of Governing Councils; and University Transparency and Accountability Solution (UTAS) as a replacement
for IPPIS.
