The Institute for Peace and Conflict Resolution (IPCR) has called on Nigerians to embrace harmonious relationships as Christians and Muslims observe Lent and Ramadan simultaneously this year.
In a statement By IPCR Director General, Joseph Ochogwu to mark the holy season, the Institute described the rare coincidence as a unique opportunity for adherents of both faiths to deepen love, unity, and tolerance across communities.
IPCR urged citizens to leverage the period to strengthen interfaith dialogue, promote mutual respect, and advance peaceful coexistence nationwide.
According to the Institute, the simultaneous observance of Ramadan and Lent underscores shared values of compassion, sacrifice, and service, reminding Nigerians that despite religious differences, they share a common humanity and national identity.
The body further cautioned against extremist interpretations of religion, calling on faith leaders and worshippers to emphasize moral teachings that unite communities and encourage peaceful living.
IPCR noted that true devotion to God is reflected in how people treat their neighbours, irrespective of religious affiliation.
As the nation continues to grapple with security challenges and social tensions, the Institute said the overlap of Ramadan and Lent serves as a timely reminder of the need for forgiveness, compassion, and mutual respect.
The Institute wished Christians and Muslims a peaceful and fulfilling Lent and Ramadan, and urged Nigerians to use the season to promote unity and build a brighter future for the country.
