The Benue State Government is demanding an unreserved apology from the Senate Minority Leader, Abba Moro whom they claim misled the Senate to pass resolution on a matter they lack constitutional powers to legislate upon.
Moro had moved a motion on the floor of the Senate on the affront on democratic structure by the State Government following the dissolution of elected Local Government Councils and appointment of Caretaker Committees.
At a joint media conference, Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Tersoo Kula and the Adviser to the Governor on Bureau For Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Dennis Akura insist the Benue Senator misinformed the Senate to believe that the State Government was imposing Local Government Caretaker Committees when there are duly elected Chairmen.
The duo explained that the recent move to appoint Caretaker Committees to run the third tier of Government was to fill the vacuum created by the sack of the Council Chairmen as recommended by the State House of Assembly.
Still arising from the recent appointments of Caretaker Committees, Special Assistant to the Governor on Youth Mobilisation and Empowerment, Mkeenem Moses directs his grievance to the State Chairman of the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, Austin Agada urging him to step aside.
According to him, the Party Chairman has mobilised party chairmen across the 23 local governments to protest against the appointment of Caretaker Committees because his preferred candidate was not picked.
