The Nasarawa State Independent Electoral Commission, NASIEC has fixed November 2, 2024 for the conduct of local government elections in the state.
The Commission’s Chairman, Ayuba Wandai who made this known during a media briefing in Lafia said guidelines for the polls have also been released.
The tenure of the 13 local government chairmen and 147 councillors in the state ends on October 7, 2024 and elections need to be conducted at the earliest opportunity to avoid a vacuum in governance at the third tier.
Wandai explained that the earlier fixed date of August 31, 2024 for the elections had to be put forward to allow the Commission deal with numerous court cases it faced in connection with the polls.
Wandai and State Chairman of the Inter-Party Advisory Council, IPAC, Danlami Musa confirmed that activities have commenced ahead of the conduct of the chairmanship and councillorship elections which will hold on November 2.
Wandai called on the people of the state to support the Commission as he promised to conduct credible polls and provide a level playing field for every political party.
