Lionel Messi donates 1 million euros to fight coronavirus

Barcelona FC and Argentina striker, Lionel Messi has donated a whopping 1 million euros to fight global epidemic, Covid-19.

Messi who made the donation on Tuesday stated that the donation will be split between two medical centers: Hospital clinic in Barcelona, Spain and another in his native Rosario, Argentina.

The donation will go towards buying medical equipment and protective material for hospital staff in Catalonia and his native country, Argentina he stated.

In a similar development, Manchester city Boss, Pep Guardiola has also donated 1 million euros to his native country Spain.

In a statement issued by a Spanish fund-raising agency Fundacio Angel Soler Daniel, the donation was made to help Spanish authorities in combating the global epidemic Covid-19 which has ravaged the country.

“Pep Guardiola has made a donation of one million euros to the Fundacio Angel Soler Daniel for the acquisition and supply of health equipment to deal with the Covid-19 pandemic,” the Foundation said in a statement.

“The fundraising campaign led by the Official College of Doctors of Barcelona and managed through the Foundation, is aimed at obtaining cash donations from doctors who are members of the college and the general population to buy health equipment which is currently lacking in hospitals in Catalonia.

“It will also help to finance the alternative 3D production of respirator masks and other protective items for health workers.”

Spain is one of the worst affected countries in Europe.

Official figures on Wednesday showed that 2,991 people had died in the country and 42,058 people are infected.
