The Niger State Liquor Licensing Board has outlined strategies to reposition its activities and operations in line with its mandate of regulating the distribution and consumption of liquor in the State.
The Director General and Chief Executive Officer of the Board, Barrister Yahaya Halidu, disclosed this during a meeting with Liquor distributors and Vendors from Chanchaga, Bosso and Paikoro local government areas.
Halidu said since his assumption in office in November last year, the Board has set out modalities to help achieve its mandate under the New Niger Agenda of the present administration of ensuring the safety and security of the people and infrastructural development.
He said the meeting was to have an interface with the distributors and vendors on the major steps and operational guidelines taken to ensure that they conduct their businesses within the ambit of the law and in conformity with established conditions and guidelines.
The DG said the Niger state laws, which allow the sale and consumption of Liquor substances, are still enforced, provided the operators did not deviate and also pay their taxes accordingly.
He added that recently, the Board has directed one woman who operates along Sauka-Kahuta to within seven days close her business for operating within a residential area.
He, therefore, charged the operators to desist from selling to under age, operating within residential areas as well as allowing the sale or taking of illicit drugs.
According to him, the Department of Anti prostitution, adultery and Fornication of the Board will also checkmate the activities of some miscreants that engage in immoral acts at City Gate, Kpakungu, and Bosso, among others.
Halidu, while seeking cooperation from the public on reporting illegal operators, however, warned his staff against doing anything funny that would undermine the activities of the board.
