The Nasarawa State Government has granted approval to a Chinese firm to explore and mine discovered Lithium deposits in some parts of the state.
Governor Abdullahi Sule said this when the National chairman Revenue Mobilisation and Fiscal allocation commission Mohammed Shehu and his team, visited him in Lafia the state capital.
Lithium mining activities is currently ongoing in some parts of the state. Exploration is currently 60 feet deep and is expected to go 200 feet deeper going forward.
Lithium a chemical element of the alkali metal group and is the lightest metal which is used especially in alloys, glass, mechanical lubricants and in storage batteries.
It’s market price has in recent years risen 10 times as a result of it’s demand in the global market.


Governor Sule expressed joy over the huge quantity in Nasarawa State as the mineral will help in boosting his administration’s industrialization bid.
He stressed that indigenous youths would also have the opportunity to acquire relevant technical know-how in deep mining exploration of solid minerals.

National chairman Revenue Mobilisation and Fiscal allocation commission Mohammed Shehu and the state chairman Internal Revenue Service, Ahmed Yakubu said, the discovery of Lithium will add to the revenue profile of the state.
They noted that the prospect of an improved revenue base is promising with Lithium and other minerals to be explored.
