Victims of attacks in Atyap communities within the Zango Kataf Local Government Area of Kaduna State, are calling on the Federal Government, to expedite the completion of the multi-billion Naira Bridge project across the River Kaduna.

The bridge, which connects neighbouring communities and states, is expected to enhance security, and boost economic activities in Kaduna State and beyond when completed

In recent years, residents of Zango Kataf Local Government have faced numerous attacks by bandits, resulting to significant loss of lives, especially in remote villages such as Kibori, Kampani, Chibob, and Kigudu.

Security operatives have struggled to access the communities, but hindered by the poor road condition and the inability to cross the river with their vehicles.

Farmers have also highlighted that the river has claimed many lives, during attempts to cross over for farming activities, or to transport produce to neighbouring markets.

To address these challenges, the Federal Government, through the Ecological Fund Office, commissioned the bridge construction, to alleviate the people’s sufferings.

The bridge will connect Kano, Katsina and Plateau States.

Expressing his gratitude, the paramount ruler of the Atyap Chiefdom, Dominic Yahaya, noted that the community has been longing for this development, even before his birth.

He believes the bridge will bring the much-needed progress to the area.

Amos Gwamna, a Member representing Zango Kataf and Jaba Federal Constituency, emphasised that it would enable security operatives to respond more effectively to emergencies, and stimulate economic activities in Kaduna, and its neighbouring states.

The construction company cited bandit activities, and the rising costs of construction materials, as the main reasons for the project’s delay.

With the project now 70 percent complete, locals have expressed optimism, that its completion would reunite them with their families and neighbours, significantly improving their livelihoods and standard of living.
