Interesting results were recorded on Matchday Two of the UEFA Champions League quarter-final playoffs, with Nigeria’s Super Eagles players playing key roles.
Ademola Lookman and Raphael Onyedika found themselves on opposite sides but both got on the scoresheet in a six-goal thriller at the Jan Breydel Stadium in Brugge, where the home side forced a dramatic 3-3 draw.
Lookman gave visiting Atletico Madrid a two-goal cushion just before halftime after Julian Alvarez had opened the scoring for Diego Simeone’s side in the 8th minute.
Seven minutes into the second half, Onyedika pulled one back for the hosts, before Nicolo Tresoldi leveled the score.
Atletico regained the lead when Joel Ordoñez turned the ball into his own net, but Onyedika later provided the assist for Christos Tzolis to make it 3-3.
Elsewhere, at the Tofiq Bahramov Stadium, Anthony Gordon stole the spotlight with four goals in a 6-1 rout of Qarabag.
Bodø/Glimt recorded a famous 3-1 victory over 2020 champions Inter Milan, while Olympiacos suffered a 2-0 home defeat to German side Bayer Leverkusen.
