The Presidential Task Force, PTF on COVID-19 has appealed to Nigerians to adhere strictly to the guidelines of the first phase of the gradual easing of the lockdown, even as preliminary report indicates high level of breaches by the citizenry.

Chairman of the task force, boss Mustapha made the appeal during Monday’s national briefing on the state of COVID-19 in Nigeria, where it was also announced that the country will finally begin the repatriation of her citizens back home across the world from Wednesday this week.

After 5 weeks of lockdown over the spread of Covid-19, economic activities returned to the Federal Capital Territory, Lagos and Ogun States in line with the first phase of the gradual easing of the lockdown.

But hours into it, the Presidential Task Force on COVID-19 says there are high level of breaches of the guidelines and called on Nigerians to adhere strictly to the measures set out.

Health officials also warned against non-wearing of face mask and the neglect of various   precautionary measures like the chaotic situation at the banks, which they say spells doom for the country in its fight against the virus.

The Minister of Environment spoke on plans by government to begin decontamination of school premises across the country, while the Foreign Affairs Minister said government will begin evacuation of 4,000 Nigerians across the world from Wednesday.

Latest figures indicate that Nigeria is the second most impacted country in sub-Saharan Africa and fifth overall on the continent.

Many say the challenge for the government is to turn the tide around in the coming days particularly with the relaxation of the lockdown.
