The Interim National Leadership of the Labour Party has called on the Inspector-General of Police to enforce the law over the vandalisation of the party’s national secretariat allegedly carried out by the faction loyal to Julius Abure.
The call was made by Professor Theophilus Ndubuaku, a key figure representing the Nigeria Labour Congress in the party’s leadership structure, during a briefing at the secretariat in Abuja.
Professor Ndubuaku condemned what he described as the unlawful invasion and destruction of property at the secretariat.
He alleged that individuals linked to the Julius Abure faction forcefully gained access to the premises, damaging offices and disrupting official activities.
The interim leadership insists that a subsisting court order recognises its authority and has therefore, urged the police hierarchy to act swiftly to prevent a breakdown of law and order.
The interim committee also announced dates for its forthcoming ward and state congresses, describing the move as part of efforts to reposition the party and return it to its grassroots structure.
