Another round of drama is unfolding at the Labour Party National Secretariat in Abuja, as the Interim National Committee is set to hold a world press conference this Monday.
There has been stiff resistance from the faction loyal to Julius Abure since the resumption of the interim leadership headed by Nenadi Usman, with both sides trading accusations over the control of the party.
The latest development follows a recent judgment by the FCT High Court directing the Independent National Electoral Commission to recognise the interim national leadership.
However, the Abure-led faction insists it has appealed the ruling.
The crisis itself dates back to the 2024 Nnewi National Convention, which was rejected by some party stakeholders.
Subsequently, the party’s only governor, Alex Otti, convened a stakeholders’ meeting in Abia State, where Nenadi Usman emerged as caretaker chairman. The Abure leadership challenged that move in court.

While both the High Court and Court of Appeal rulings initially favoured Abure, the Supreme Court later nullified the judgments, stating that the lower courts lacked jurisdiction over the party’s internal affairs.
Following the recent FCT High Court order recognising her leadership, Nenadi Usman moved to resume at the party’s national secretariat, a development that has further heightened tensions.
