Nigeria’s renowned Media specialist and civil society activist, Mac Imoni Amarere, has been re-elected into the International Board of ActionAid for a second 3-year term.

The election took place at the ongoing Annual Global Assembly of ActionAid International in Seville, Spain.

Amarere secured 40 out of 51 votes cast by representatives from Europe, Africa, Asia, Australia, the United States, and South America, defeating 5 other candidates.

Amarere, who made history in 2022 as the first Nigerian elected to the ActionAid International Board in Madrid, serves on two key committees: Programs and Human Resources, and Organisational Development.

Also at the assembly, Professor Eze Nwokocha of the University of Ibadan and a Board member of ActionAid Nigeria was elected into the 2026 Global Assembly Organising Committee for a one-year term.

In his reaction from Sevilla, Amarere described his re-election as another opportunity to serve humanity and contribute to building a more just global system, but one that addresses the needs and aspirations of the poor, the exploited, and the underserved.
