Makurdi residents face severe flooding after heavy downpour

Some residents of Makurdi Town, Benue State’s capital, woke up to a rude shock on Monday after a heavy downpour led to severe flooding which wreaked havoc in most residential areas. The heavy rain lasted all through the night till morning.

Those who spoke with ait.live expressed their displeasure over the recurring incident and called on the government to fulfill its obligation by finding a permanent solution to the problem.

As predicted by Nigeria’s Hydrological Services Agency, a substantial part of the nation’s food basket’s administrative capital was again submerged after a persistent downpour that lasted several hours.

A visit to Achusa, BIPC quarters Nyiman, and some parts of Gboko road uncovers the worrisome reality of the annual natural disaster.

Even though the predictions came with what looks like enough notice the residents are again caught completely off guard.

It’s an annual threat that most residents seem to be overburdened with which begs the question of just when the will government mitigate this growing threat head to relieve its citizenry of the attendant hardship.
