Health Specialists from fifteen Africa countries have called for enhanced pharmaceutical research and deepened collaboration to effectively tackle the persistent malaria scourge within the continent.
The health specialists who said this during the seasonal malaria chemoprevention meeting in Abuja, noted that fostering local innovation and cooperation are paramount to effectively eradicating malaria, a disease that continues to afflict millions across Africa.
The malaria chemoprevention initiative involves administering preventive doses of anti-malaria medication to at-risk children residing in regions with seasonal malaria transmission, irrespective of their current infection status.
The various speakers at the seasonal malaria chemoprevention in Abuja, said collaborative efforts and heightened engagement by African leaders are needed to improve pharmaceutical research in the continent.
Nigeria’s Minister of Health and Social Welfare, Prof. Ali Pate, said the Abuja meeting was a decisive stride towards reversing the lethal grip of malaria.
The Participants from fifteen Africa countries were also saddled with the responsibility of reviewing the implementation of the seasonal malaria chemoprevention in previous years and help plan for coming years in terms of funding and support.
