The ECOWAS Parliament has expressed concerns over the impending exit of Mali, Burkina Faso, and Niger Republic from sub-regional bloc, scheduled for January 29, 2025.

The Parliament has therefore called for an extension of the deadline to allow for further negotiations and reflections, aiming to prevent the disintegration of the sub-region.

Meanwhile, the ECOWAS Parliament has approved the community’s consolidated budget for 2025, totalling 418,062,927 Units of Account.

The budget includes allocations for the ECOWAS Parliament, Commission, Court of Justice, and agencies, as well as special projects focused on peace and security.

The ECOWAS Parliament’s Bureau, which met in Abuja from December 6 to 13, also considered 10 other Community Acts referred by the ECOWAS Commission, covering areas such as energy, transport, and education.

Furthermore, the Bureau held an interactive session with the Programme for Women’s Political Participation in Africa, discussing ways to promote greater involvement of women in political governance within the sub-region.
