Taraba State is witnessing a historic turnaround as the Federal Ministry of Works has concluded its National Media Tour of the North East.
Top on the list is the construction of the Gembu–Mbamnga–Yang Road linking Nigeria to the Cameroon border, as well as the reconstruction of the Bali–Serti–Gashaka–Gembu Road.
The Mbamnga monarch, Alhaji Sale Mbondu, described the project as the fulfilment of a long-standing pledge dating back to the 1961 plebiscite when the area voted to join Nigeria.
He said journeys that once took up to six hours due to poor roads and river crossings have now been significantly reduced.
The Federal Controller of Works in Taraba State, Engineer Ibrahim Usman, disclosed that the Gembu–Mbamnga–Yang Road project commenced in January 2025 and is scheduled for completion in July 2027.
He noted that construction is being executed using Continuous Reinforced Concrete Pavement technology to ensure durability. As of January 2026, overall progress stands at about 20 per cent, with one bridge completed and work ongoing on another despite challenges posed by heavy rainfall and difficult terrain.
