Izuchukwu Okeke, the commercial motorcyclist who exposed the viral case of Glory Okolie’s unlawful detention at the Tiger Base Unit of the police in Imo State has been found languishing in the custody of the correctional facility in Keffi Nasarawa state.

He has been kept in several detention centres for a cumulative period of 60days

An activist, Harrison Gwamnishu of Behind Bars Human Right Organisation, said Izuchukwu Okeke was remanded in Keffi prison on 9th September 2021

Okolie’s Counsel, Samuel Ihensekhien confirmed that Okeke was remanded on the order of an FCT area court judge sitting at Nyanya, in the Federal Capital Territory, without any charge or criminal proceedings.

The lawyer said he confirmed his location when he paid a visit to the Keffi Correctional Centre on Monday

Ihensekhien described the remand as “an illegality” as it is a Magistrate Court and not an Upper Area Court possess the powers to issue such remand pursuant to the Administration of Criminal Justice Act, ACJA.

Meanwhile, Glory Okolie is still in detention despite the order of an FCT High Court that she be released on bail if the police fail to charge her to court

Up till now, the police has failed to comply with the court order.
