The Governments of Maradi in Niger Republic and Katsina State say they are putting finishing touches to the completion of a 3 kilometres International Road Project.

The Governor of Maradi, Niger Republic, Zakari Oumaru stated this during a bilateral visit to Governor Aminu Masari in Katsina.

He said, when completed, it will serve both peoples and ease the transportation of goods and services, especially agricultural produce.

Oumaru told Governor Masari that, the visit is on the directive of the Nigerien President, Yousuf Momodou, after inspecting the road from Maradi- Madarumfa to Jibiya border in Katsina State which is near completion.

According to the governor, the road billed to cost about 28.9 billion Cefa which is equivalent to 21 Billion Naira, is part of the road projects initiated by the government of Niger Republic, to link up not only Katsina with Maradi, but other countries in the ECOWAS sub region.

Oumarou expressed belief that the road will improve the economic condition of the two countries.

He said, the 3 kilometres project will cut across Maradi-Madarumfa to the borders of Nigeria in Jibia and Gurbin Baure in Katsina State.

Governor Masari said, although the initiative is good, the government has to contact the Federal Ministry of Works, due to its international outlook, with a view to seek advice.

He added that, no doubt, the project when completed will enhance the socioeconomic wellbeing of both peoples, as they share similar culture and belief.

He assures that engineers from the state ministry of works will also assess the remaining portion of the road, with a view to fast tracking its completion and to meet with the international best practices.
