Enzo Maresca has left his role as Chelsea’s manager with the club currently 5th in the Premier League, ending his tenure less than six months after a trophy-laden debut season.
The 45-year-old italian enjoyed early success at Stamford Bridge, guiding Chelsea to a top-four finish and winning both the UEFA Conference League and the Club World Cup. These achievements initially earned him the backing of the club’s hierarchy.
However, Chelsea’s form declined sharply in recent weeks. The Blues managed just one win in their last seven league matches, collecting only six points in December and falling 15 points behind League leaders Arsenal.
Beyond results, sources indicate growing tension between Maresca and the club’s management. The coach was reportedly unhappy with working conditions and attempts to influence team selection, while also feeling expectations were unrealistic given the youthfulness of the squad and injuries to key players, including Levi Colwill and Cole Palmer.

Chelsea said both parties agreed that a change was necessary, with crucial objectives still to play across four competitions, including qualification for next season’s champions league.
Maresca, who had a contract running until 2029, missed post-match media duties after the 2–2 draw with Bournemouth on December 30, a sign that his future was already under consideration.
Chelsea now face Manchester City this weekend without a confirmed manager with assistant coach Willy Caballero to take temporary charge, while the club is expected to assess several options, including Roberto de Zerbi, Oliver Glasner, Andoni Iraola, and Thomas Frank.
