The Movement for Credible Elections says it will institute legal action against the National Assembly and the Nigeria Police over the alleged brutality of peaceful protesters in Abuja.
In a statement, the group condemned the use of tear gas and what it described as brute force against citizens demonstrating for electoral reforms.
The protesters had gathered at the National Assembly while lawmakers deliberated on provisions affecting electronic transmission of election results.
MCE argues that suppressing peaceful dissent undermines democracy and erodes public trust in state institutions.
The group is demanding an independent investigation into the police action, a clear commitment from lawmakers on electronic result transmission safeguards, and broader engagement with civil society.
It says the credibility of the 2027 elections depends on how authorities respond to lawful citizen engagement.
