The Medical Women Association of Nigeria has Advocated the need for the Federal Government to provide adequate funding for the health sector, especially primary health care, in order to address the issues of emergency medicine in Nigeria.

The women made this known to journalists in Port Harcourt.

Emergency medicine is a quick response or treatment given to patients with serious ailments before it gets out of hand but in Nigeria the state of emergency medicine has been described as far below expectation due to the challenges in the health sector such as poor funding, inadequate manpower ,poor access to drugs, lack of health facilities among others.

These were the views of the medical women association of Nigeria during a panel of discussants with the theme on emergency medicine in Nigeria and defining the model.

While proferring solutions on the way forward to improve emergency medicine in Nigeria, they stressed the need for government at all levels to provide adequate funding in the Healthcare, especially the primary health care system.

One of the common ailments that requires urgent attention in emergency medicine is heart attack and the facility to resuscitate patients in Nigeria is few with just one in the whole of South South Region.

Many patients have lost their lives as a result of lack of organised response to emergency medication.
It was on this note that the medical women association of Nigeria brainstormed on the challenges and the way forward.
