Mild drama unfolded in the Senate as two senators engaged in an argument over the seating arrangements in the new chamber.

Four-term senator representing Zamfara North, Sahabi Yau, expressed dissatisfaction with the seat assigned to him, raising his voice at the Senate Leader, Opeyemi Bamidele

According to the Senate’s standing rules, seats are allocated based on ranking and the number of times a lawmaker is returned by their constituents to the National Assembly.

Former Governor of Gombe state, Senator Mohamed Goje shared Senator Yau’s sentiments about being assigned to the second row by the Senate Committee on Services, chaired by Senator Sunday Karimi from Kogi West.

Both senators insisted on being assigned seats on the front row, opposite the seats of the Majority Leader and the Deputy President of the Senate.

Following the argument, Senator Kawu Sumaila from Kano South attempted to raise a “point of order,” but was not given recognition by President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio.

Despite the concerns, Akpabio went ahead to read his opening speech following the return of lawmakers from Easter and Eid-el-Fitr recess.

Subsequently, Senate Leader Opeyemi Bamidele moved a motion for a closed session.
