Ahead of the planned nationwide protest over alleged hardship in Nigeria, the military is warning organisers of the protest against any form of violence.
Addressing a news conference in Abuja while providing details of the activities of troops in the fight against insurgency, Director of Defence media operations, major-general Edward Buba says although citizens have a right to ventilate their grievances, the military will not condone any form of violent gatherings or protest.
General Buba explains that those who are planning to replicate the violent protest of Kenya are misguided elements who think war is a movie.
He adds that the military has uncovered plots by unscrupulous elements to hijack the protest and turn it into a violent one by attacking innocent Nigerians and their businesses.
General Buba further says while citizens have a right to protest under the country’s constitution, nobody has the right to galvanise for a violent protest as the military will not watch and allow that to happen.
