One year after the federal government approved the new national minimum wage of thirty thousand naira, the federal capital territory administration is yet to implement the national minimum wage.

The minister of state of the federal capital territory, Ramatu Aliyu, disclosed this while appearing before the house of representatives committee on FCT Area Councils and Ancillary Matters.

The minister explained that poor funding for the area councils is responsible for the non implementation of the minimum wage.

The minister also blamed the strike action embarked upon by teachers and local government workers in the territory on lack of funding

The administration says it is engaging with relevant institutions in the territory including the inland revenue service to ensure adequate funding for the area councils as the administration is considering requesting bailout fund just like other states in the country.
