Ahead of Thursday’s consultations involving the National Economic Council, NEC over an acceptable new National Minimum Wage for workers, the Nigeria Governors’ Forum, NGF has pledged its commitment to the cause of the country’s work force.
Rising from its meeting in the early hours of Thursday, the Forum in a communique signed by its Chairman and Governor of Kwara State, AbdulRazaq AbdulRahman said they agreed to continue engaging with key stakeholders to reach a mutually agreeable solution.
It is the 7th physical meeting of the 36 State Governors of Nigeria with two key issues top on the agenda. The vexed subject of new National Minimum Wage and that of Local Government autonomy.
The National Minimum Wage matter has continued to generate so much debate especially after the Governors had raised the red flag over the N62,000 offered by the Federal Government and Organised Private Sector at the Tripartite Committee.

The resolve of the President Bola Tinubu administration to extend negotiations and Organised Labour’s refusal to accept the N62,000 may have been their driving force to another expanded meeting of the National Economic Council later on Thursday.
Local Government autonomy is also generating another heated national debate. It also formed the basis for discussion at the Governors meeting.
The Forum also received a presentation from the Minister of Women Affairs, Uju Kennedy-Ohanenye on the World Bank–Nigeria for Women Project Scale-Up.
Members noted the importance of the project and
emphasised the need to implement it at the sub-national level.
