The Minister of Regional Development Abubakar Momoh has expressed sadness over the passing of former Inspector-General of Police and immediate past Chairman of the Police Service Commission Solomon Ehigiator Arase.
In a statement, Momoh noted that Arase was more than a distinguished officer because he was a reformer, an intellectual, and a patriot whose entire life was devoted to the pursuit of justice, peace, and security of Nigeria.
The minister said Arase’s tenure as the 18th Inspector-General of Police was defined by uncommon courage and a commitment to professionalism, particularly through the institutionalisation of the Complaint Response Unit, which brought renewed hope to citizens seeking accountability from the police.
Momoh noted that even after leaving office as IGP, Arase continued to serve Nigeria meritoriously, bringing wisdom and integrity to the Police Service Commission where he championed policies aimed at improving welfare, discipline, and operational excellence within the force.
