In a proactive step to avoid the recurrence of the devastating flood, which ravaged 3 communities, washed away 256 houses and recorded over 151 deaths so far, the Niger State environmental protection agency, NISEPA, has officially flagged off the end of the month environmental sanitation day.

The exercise was led by the commissioner for environment and climate change, Yakubu Kolo, the General manager and Chief Executive Officer of the State Environmental Protection Agency, NISEPA, Abubakar Muhammed and other officials of both the ministry and agency.

The exercise flagged off at Paida Hill, is aimed at sensitising the people to keep the environment clean and avoid dumping refuse on the drainages to avoid blockage of the culverts.

He added that lack of political will by the Ministry and agency contributed to the non-enforcement of the monthly sanitation, but the case is now different.

For the NISEPA, the exercise will continue every last Saturday of the month, as directed by the state government, and aggressive sensitisation will be done in this regard.
