The repentant bandits vowed to abandon their former ways of life to allow peace to reign.

The seven bandits who accepted the peace and reconciliation process released eight kidnapped victims, who are mostly women, and surrendered two guns to the Zamfara State government.

One of the repentant bandits, Ismaila Auta who spoke on behalf of the other bandits, assured Nigerians that they have renounced banditry, kidnapping, cattle rustling and other crimes to give way to peaceful harmony.

Zamfara State Governor, Bello Mohammed, while receiving the seven repentant bandits and eight women who were kidnapped by the said bandits thanked God for the successes recorded in the fight against banditry in the state.

He appealed to the people to see the fight against insecurity as everybody’s business, by providing intelligence to the security operatives.

The Commissioner for Security and Home Affairs, Abubakar Dauran, and that of the Police, Abutu Yaro, asked recalcitrant bandits to come forward to lay down their arms and embrace the peace initiative.

The eight kidnapped women are to undergo medical screening and counseling before they will be reunited with their families.

The two guns were handed over to the police for safe keeping.
