The Bauchi State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of 19-year-old Esther Gambo and 15 others in connection with the gruesome murder of two seven-year-old girls in Unguwan Sarkin Yaki, Toro Local Government Area. The incident has triggered violent protests and public unrest in the community.
According to a press statement by the Police Public Relations Officer, Ahmed Wakili, a combined team of police operatives and local vigilantes responded swiftly to the crime scene, where they discovered the lifeless bodies of the two young victims. Preliminary investigations revealed that the prime suspect, Esther Gambo, allegedly lured the girls into a maize farm, attacked them with a machete, and fled the scene.
In the course of the investigation, police also rescued a newborn baby girl reportedly taken from one Nafisa Dahiru, whom Esther had falsely accused of child theft.
Following the tragic event, tension escalated among local youths leading to violent protests. Some protesters set churches ablaze and attempted to torch the Tulu Divisional Police Station.

To contain the situation, police reinforcements from nearby divisions were deployed and successfully repelled the attack, restoring order in the area.
In total, 16 suspects have been arrested, including Esther Gambo. Others arrested are: Abbas Abdullahi, Mubarak Auwal, Abdullahi Mohammed, Dauda Abdullahi, Abubakar Samaila, Abdulmutallib Ibrahim, Yazid Auwal, Abdurahman Suleman, Salisu Shuaibu, Sirajo Halliru, Musayib Abdullahi, Ibrahim Abubakar, Esther Idi, Gambo Yakubu, and Idi Bitrus.
Commissioner of Police, Sani Aliyu, assured that a thorough investigation is ongoing and called on residents to remain calm and law-abiding as justice will take its course.
