A pan-Nigeria political association, National Democratic Coalition (NADECO) has called for the immediate resignation of President Muhammadu Buhari on the grounds of what the group described as ” gross incompetence and reckless endangerment of the lives and property of Nigerian citizens.

The coalition group reached the position at the end of meetings with several other groups in the United States of America (USA) and in Nigeria.

It noted that the primary responsibility of government is the security and welfare of the people, pointing out that it has become glaring for all to see that Buhari has failed woefully in this regard and should honourable resign from office.

“These are the fundamental rights that Nigerians have been denied under Buhari.

“The President and his All Progressives Congress(APC) have failed woefully and dangerously”

NADECO said the fact that the seat of power, Abuja is at the verge of being overrun by terrorists is a clear testimony that the government under Buhari has totally collapsed under the weight of his disdain for the people, arrogance and crass ineptitude and can no longer be trusted with power.

The group said the President had in his own statement admitted that he was “tired” and had nothing else to offer when he said he cannot wait to leave office.

“Buhari is now a portent of doom. It is abundantly clear that Buhari has “checked out” and is no longer Nigeria’s leader”.

The group said Nigeria under Buhari has become rudderless and there was nothing more the people should expect from a disconnected President who has shown time and time again that he is no longer in charge.

“What more are Nigerians expecting from a clueless and disconnected Buhari, whose hand is no longer at the tiller and the ship of state is rudderless? The President is tired and wants to leave.”

NADECO enjoined citizens to rally round its call for Buhari to voluntarily throw in the towel or face impeachment by the National Assembly.

“There are many reasons Buhari must resign now, foremost of which is the alarming increase in major security breaches in 2022 that have accelerated the
insecurity of Nigeria at a pace even the most cynical could have never foreseen – none of which have been addressed and all of which are squarely the fault of Buhari and his cronies and bootlickers”.

The group lamented that under Buhari and in 2022 alone, the country and its people have endured some of its worst adversities that can only rival the episodes of 1966 rivals for rampant ethno-religious violence, political executions, and religious and tribal persecution of the People of Nigeria.

It recalled amongst other atrocities, the attack on Nigerian Defence Academy in Kaduna that left 2 officers killed and another 1 abducted on February 12, 2022. It also pointed at similar attack on Kaduna airport, the Abuja/Kaduna train attack that left 12 persons dead, 75 kidnapped with 43 of the kidnapped still held as captives in the bush with the bandits.

This was as it lamented the attack on Catholic church in Owo where 70 persons were killed with many injured.

Even more troubling according to the group was the July 6, attack on Buhari’s advance convoy and the attack on Kuje Correctional Facility that housed some of Boko Haram deadliest fighters and the brutal killings of a Captain and 2 other officers of the elite Presidential Brigade of Guards in Bwari near the Law School.

The group said the last straw that broke the carmel’s back is the threats by bandits to kidnap Buhari and the Governor of Kaduna State, Nasir El-Rufai.

NADECO however said despite the threats, Buhari watches idly while Nigeria crumbles and its capital falls into the hands of terrorists even as it feared that Nigeria’s security agents may have become complicit in the terror that now completely envelops the entire country.

The statement released on Thursday agreed with Chief Afe Babalola’s proposal of an Interim Government for Nigeria after which a restructuring arrangement should be embarked on.
