NAF deploys unmanned aerial vehicles to tackle North West banditry

In a bid to sustain the gains of the ongoing onslaught against bandits terrorizing the northwest and parts of the north central regions, the Nigerian Air force says it is set to deploy 8 unmanned aerial vehicles, UAVs, to both Gombe, Katsina and Zamfara states respectively.

The Chief of Air Staff, Air Marshal Sadique Abubakar who stated this during his operational visit to assess the progress made in the fight against bandits at the operation base in Katsina revealed that, 71 personnel to man the combat unmanned aerial vehicles have been sent to China for training and are expected back to the country any time soon.

Speaking to newsmen shortly after receiving briefs on the ongoing air interdiction operations to rid bandits off the Northwest and part of the north central regions, the Chief of air staff Sadique Abubakar hinted that, appreciable successes have been recorded especially destroying camps established by bandits in parts of Katsina, Zamfara, Sokoto and Niger States.

He added that the Federal Government is doing everything humanly possible to see that peace and security returns to the troubled areas as visible in the acquisition of more helicopters, other platforms, 8 combat Unmanned Aerial Vehicles and training of 71 personnel to Mann them.

While expressing determination not to give the bandits breathing space to operate, Abubakar assured Nigerians that in no distant time, banditry and other criminal activities will be a thing of the past especially with the sustaining of the ongoing offensive against the bandits.
