National Association of Nigerian Students, NANS has entered the growing legal and public dispute between SERAP and two DSS operatives, backing the court judgement and cautioning against attacks on the judiciary.
In a position paper submitted to the Attorney-General of the Federation, NANS said the FCT High Court ruling was a reminder that allegations capable of injuring reputations must be supported by facts and subjected to judicial scrutiny.

The association argued that SERAP’s description of the DSS visit to its Abuja office as an unlawful raid created damaging public perceptions against the affected operatives, adding that the court subsequently found the claims defamatory.

The students body further welcomed the DSS clarification that the suit was instituted by the operatives in their personal capacities, maintaining that the matter centres on individual reputation, personal dignity and the legal right to seek redress through the courts.
