Nasarawa Assembly uncovers secret employment of 366 teachers

The Nasarawa State House of Assembly NSHA on Monday mandated its committee on Education to investigate the purported employment of 366 secondary school teachers by the office of the state Accountant General.

The Speaker of the House, Ibrahim Balarabe gave the directive after Daniel Ogazi of the All Progressives Congress, Kokona East, raised the issue on the Matters of public interest during proceedings on the floor of the assembly.

According to the speaker, a thorough investigation into the alleged employment of teachers will enable the House to know the true position of the matter.

He asked the House Committee on Education, Science, and Technology to carry out a thorough investigation.

Earlier, Chairman House Committee on Education, Science, and Technology Daniel Ogazi while raising the matter said that the purported employment emanated from the office of the state Accountant General.

He said during their recess, they had carried out oversight functions and it is on that note that they discovered the purported employment of 366 secondary school teachers.

Daniel Ogazi said Until this moment, there is no advertisement for vacancies but, there was the employment of 366 secondary school teachers in the state.

The lawmaker told the House that there was no provision in the 2021 budget for the employment of 366 secondary school teachers and wondered why there was such employment without following due process.
