The Nasarawa State Government has kick started what it says is an attempt to find lasting solutions to the violent communal clashes in parts of Afo land in Nasarawa local government of the state by appointing an interim administrator for the disputed Mararaba-Udege Administrative Unit

Governor Abdullahi Sule disclosed this when he summoned the paramount rulers of the Osu Ajiri and Osu Agwada and other key players of Afo land to a meeting in Lafia, the state capital.

The Afo people in Nasarawa state are mainly from Nasarawa and Kokona local government areas who have faced persistent communal clashes over land for years now.

The meeting with key players from Afo community is aimed at fast tracking a resolution of the contentious issues which has led to violent conflict and the loss of lives and property.

The governor explained that the administrator to be appointed will have four members – two persons each from Ambu and Eki factions who will oversee Udege Administrative Unit and as well help fast track initiatives for an amicable resolution of the crisis.

Sule enjoined Afo people to stop referring to Mararaba the disputed land as a village due to the fact that it is presently the fastest growing community in the entire Afo land.

He stressed that as a result of the commercial mining activities taking place around the area today, Mararaba has the potential of becoming as large as one of the big towns across the state.

Persons from Afo community spoke on the need for reconciliation and peace to thrive in the community.

They called on the entire Afo people to give the state government the support needed to achieve genuine reconciliation.
