Nasarawa State Government is appealing to people especially those living in areas that are prone to flood disaster to take precautionary measures that will support efforts to reduce the impact of flooding
Governor Abdullahi Sule gave the advice while flagging off the Lafia township stormwater and gully erosion control program to address the issue of flooding in Lafia the state capital
Flood and gully erosion have over the years resulted in loss of lives, destruction of property, crops, animals among others leaving the communities with psychological trauma.
Nasarawa a state blessed with mineral resources has had its share of the environmental challenges mostly occasioned by mining activities, deforestation, over-grazing, and indiscriminate waste disposal.
For Governor Sule, his administration is determined to address the challenges identified and requires citizens’ support.

The Nigeria Erosion and Watershed Project (NEWMAP) through the state project coordinator Jonathan Kwaghkaha said 1 .5 billion naira has been earmarked for the construction of drainages in 5 local government areas in the state.
This same project aimed at curbing flooding and gully erosion will be replicated in Doma, Keffi, Nasarawa, and Toto local government areas which are all considered prone to flooding.
