The Nasarawa State Police Command has foiled an armed robbery and kidnap attempt along the Keffi–Akwanga highway, arresting one suspect in possession of sophisticated firearms and ammunition.

Police Public Relations Officer, Superintendent Ramhan Nansel in a statement said the suspects had blocked the highway at Mayo village with the intention of robbing and abducting road users.

He explained that the Commissioner of Police, Shettima Jauro, swiftly mobilised operatives from the Garaku Division in Kokona Local Government Area to the scene, where they engaged the hoodlums in a gun duel.

Overpowered by the superior firepower of the operatives, the suspects fled into the forest, with one arrested at the scene.

The suspect, identified as Aondoaver Thiom from Ise Kiragbe, Kadarko in Keana Local Government Area of Nasarawa State, was found with gunshot injuries.

During interrogation, Thiom confessed to being part of a syndicate that has been terrorising the highway between Yelwata in Guma Local Government Area of Benue State and Kadarko in Keana for over two months. He also provided useful information about other fleeing gang members.
