Nasarawa State Government has set up an investigative team to look into the issues surrounding the inability of local government councils to effect salary payment of workers.
Governor Abdullahi Sule while inaugurating the investigative committee said he is worried about why the 3rd tier of the state government is finding it difficult to pay workers salaries despite their autonomy.
The move by the governor follows initial measures taken by the local government service commission to suspend about 62 directors. the outcome of the suspension revealed some discrepancies which need to be cleared in order to restore sanity in the local government system.

He said the key role of the local government councils is to bring development closer to the people especially for those at the grassroots, but this appears not to be so in Nasarawa state considering the accumulated pension arrears, payment of percentage increases, backlog of gratuity among others.
The investigative committee has its work cut out at the local government councils and is expected to submit its report in 4 weeks to the state government.
