At Wednesday’s plenary, the president of the senate Ahmed Lawan announced a six-man Conference Committee that will work with their counterpart in the House of representatives to harmonise and produce a clean copy of the Bill for onward transmission to President Muhammadu Buhari for assent.

The seven-man committee will be chaired by senator Kashim Shettima( APC Borno Central)

Other Members of the Committee are:

  1. Senator Kashim Shettima, Chairman.
  1. Senator Abba Moro (member).
  2. Senator Betty Apiafi (Member).
  3. Senator Oriolowo Adelere (member)
  4. Senator Eyinnaya Abaribe (member)
  5. Senator Seriake Dickson (member)

The Conference Committee members are expected to look at discrepancies and harmonize them before forwarding the clean copy to the Presidency.

The Nigeria Peace Corps Establishment Bill passed in 2022 by the two Chambers is sponsored by the Chairman, Senate Committee on Army, Senator Ali Ndume

The Bill, among others, seeks to establish the Nigerian Peace Corps as a body charged with the responsibility to develop, empower and provide employment to youths, facilitate peace, volunteerism, Community Service, Neighborhood Watch and Nation building.

The bill when assented to by the President would give statutory backing to the existing Peace Corps of Nigeria.
