National Commission for Persons with Disabilities Celebrates Eid, Calls for Respect and Dignity Towards Persons with Disabilities

The National Commission for Persons with Disabilities (NCPWD) extends warm greetings and best wishes to all Nigerians as we celebrate Eid al-Adha. This sacred occasion is a time for reflection, compassion, and community, values that resonate deeply within our society.

As we gather to celebrate Eid, the NCPWD urges the public to embrace the spirit of the season by showing compassion and respect towards Persons with Disabilities (PWDs). Our collective commitment to inclusivity and dignity can make this celebration meaningful for everyone.

We strongly caution against the exploitation of Persons with Disabilities for soliciting alms. This practice not only undermines the dignity of PWDs but also perpetuates harmful stereotypes and discrimination. We urge families, caregivers, and the general public to protect the rights and integrity of PWDs by refraining from such activities.

Furthermore, the NCPWD calls on recreational centres and public spaces to uphold the rights of PWDs by ensuring their facilities are accessible and free from discrimination. Every Nigerian deserves the opportunity to enjoy the festivities without facing barriers or prejudice. We remind all recreational centre operators to comply with accessibility standards and to foster an inclusive environment for all visitors.

The NCPWD remains committed to advocating for the rights and inclusion of Persons with Disabilities across Nigeria. We continue to work towards a society where every individual, regardless of ability, can participate fully and equally in all aspects of life.
