The Federal government says it will soon release the authentic list of nominees for national honours, describing the one in circulation as ‘fake’ Minister of Special Duties and Intergovernmental Affairs George Akume told State house correspondents on Tuesday in Abuja after a meeting with President Muhammadu Buhari.

He said that the authentic list of the nominees will be released as soon as the President approves it.

Asked about the purported list of nominees for national honours being circulated by some online media organisations, Akume urged Nigerians to disregard the trending list.

Although, Akume said his meeting with the President on Tuesday is not connected to the list of nominees but a different issue entirely.

He however did not state how soon the authentic list will be released to the public.

Over the weekend the media was awash with a series of names purported to be on the list of Nigerians to be conferred with the national awards.

The list of nominees, which has now gone viral on the Internet, has however generated criticisms, especially over the calibre of persons nominated for awards.
