Bayelsa State Governor, Douye Diri says the Federal and state government must collaborate to stop further degradation of the environment in Nigeria,
The Governor said this when he received the Conservator General, National Parks Services Ibrahim Goni and other top officials of the outfit at the Government house in Yenagoa, following the upgrading of two forest reserves in the state to the status of national parks.
Bayelsa is among states in the country benefiting from the federal government’s resolve to upgrade the forests and game reserves to the status of National parks.

The Apoi and Edumenum forest reserves in Southern Ijaw and Ogbia council areas are the two selected from Bayelsa for the upgrade with two Toyota Hilux vehicles.
Governor Douye Diri took delivery of the vehicles from the Conservator General, National Parks Services, Ibrahim Goni.
The Governor expresses hope that the environment which has been degraded over the years is presently receiving some attention.
Diri also calls for concerted efforts and synergy in containing the activities of illegal logging in the state.
The Conservator General at the meeting disclosed that the operation of National Parks Services would commence soon with the recruitment of one hundred persons in the State.
