National Youth Games: Team Delta wins 6th edition

Team Delta

Team Delta has emerged Champions of this year’s National Youth Games, winning it for a record sixth time.

Minister of Youth and Sports Development, Sunday Dare who declared the game closed said he believes the investment of the ministry into grassroots sports development is a worthy venture that will benefit the nation.

Delta state won 60 gold, 26 silver and 28 bronze, totalling 114 medals overall.

Team Lagos came second, with 19 gold, 25 silver and 28 bronze totalling, 72 medals.

Team Edo is third with 18 gold, 10 silver and 12 bronze to earn a total of 40 medals.

Enugu, Gombe and Zamfara ended the competition without picking a single medal.

Some notable athletes discovered are nine-year-old, Gift Torhile from FCT and Wilson Bright from Delta who did well in Athletics.

Thirteen-year-old duo Obiefeuna Munachi from FCT and Mustapha Oriyomi from Delta came tops in Gymnastics.

Others are weightlifting trio of Florence Olarinoye from Lagos, Victory Okundia from Edo and Marvelous Chidirim from FCT.

Not forgetting Para Athlete, Akinwowon Oladeji from Lagos who won the 100m, 200m and 400m races.

Enugu, Gombe and Zamfara ended the competition without picking a single medal.
